Electro cardiograph

The recorded diagram of electrical potential changes caused by heart muscle stimulation is called Electrocardiogram. Electrocardiograph continually records this diagram on a specific paper tape. The information recorded on this paper shows electrical waves stimulating the heart muscle. These waves show different stages of heart stimulations.

Electrocardiograph called ECG is turned to one of the most popular medical equipment   and it is so essential for diagnosis and evaluating the electrical performance of heart. The millivolt electric potential changes of the heart muscle are collected by electrodes and then recorded by this device.

Components of Electrocardiograph device

Although different companies may produce devices with various features, there are some common principles in these devices that are so important for introducing and operating the Electrocardiograph devices. Generally, you can find following parts in an Electrocardiograph:

  • POWER button: This button turns the device on/off.
  • STOP/START button: This button records the waves on the tape.
  • SENSITIVITY SELECTOR button: Usually, this button is used for selecting the sensitivity of the values of 5mm / mv; 10mm / mv; 20mm / mv applications.
  • SPEED SELECTOR button: This button is used for selecting the speed of the tape (often 25 mm/s and 50mm/s).
  • FILTER button: It is used for eliminating the noises and interference frequencies.
  • STD button: By pressing the key, a square 1 mV wave DC is used in order to adjust the sensitivity and calibration of the device before the tape being used. If there’s a change in the form or size of the wave, the repair and servicing of the device and perform more accurate calibration tests are necessary.
  • AUTO/MAN button: In some devices selecting the record of all derivatives are adjustable manually or automatically.
  • STYLUS button: Setting and controlling the temperature of the Stylus is done by this button.
  • POSITION button: This button is used for controlling the location of the Stylus in the middle of the tape.
